2013 National Public Health Week highlights value of prevention in public health

This year’s National Public Health Week (NPHW) from April 1-7 will emphasize the importance of well-supported public health systems. The theme, “Public Health is ROI: Save Lives, Save Money,” highlights public health’s significant return on investment (ROI) by saving lives, preventing disease, and curbing health care spending.

The American Public Health Association organizes this event, and offers a wealth of resources to educate the public, policymakers, and practitioners on this year’s theme. Toolkits on event planning, social media outreach, and advocacy are available on the NPHW website.

Consider attending an NPHW event in your community, or join public health advocates for a discussion on evidence-based disease prevention and health promotion initiatives in a live Twitter chat on April 3rd, 2013, at 2:00PM EDT by following and responding to the official hashtag #NPHWchat.
